Senior GIS Analyst

Role Summary

The Senior GIS Analyst provides technical leadership in the development, implementation, and management of geospatial systems that support mining, reclamation, environmental monitoring, permitting, and land management projects. This role serves as a senior technical resource responsible for spatial data management, advanced analysis, enterprise GIS solutions, and project delivery across all phases of the project life cycle.

The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams including environmental scientists, reclamation specialists, engineers, Indigenous Nations, regulators, and mining industry stakeholders to develop geospatial solutions that support operational decision-making, regulatory compliance and environmental performance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Geospatial Leadership & Technical Delivery

• Design, implement, and maintain enterprise GIS databases, geodatabases, and spatial data management systems supporting mining, reclamation, and environmental projects.
• Develop and maintain GIS applications, dashboards, automation tools, and workflows using ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Python, FME, and related technologies.
• Lead complex spatial analyses supporting mine planning, environmental assessments,
  baseline studies, habitat assessments, reclamation planning, permitting, and regulatory
  reporting.
• Integrate and manage diverse datasets including LiDAR, UAV/drone imagery, satellite
  imagery, terrain models, environmental monitoring data, and geotechnical information
• Develop high-quality cartographic products, technical figures, and regulatory mapping
  deliverables for permit applications, environmental assessments, mine closure plans, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.

Project Support

• Support compliance and permitting activities through geospatial analysis and mapping.
• Assist project teams in evaluating land disturbance, reclamation progress, vegetation
  recovery, wildlife habitat conditions, and environmental performance indicators.
• Support cumulative effects assessments, watershed analyses, habitat modeling, and
  landscape-level planning initiatives.
• Contribute geospatial expertise to mine closure and reclamation planning projects.
• Ensure GIS deliverables comply with provincial, federal, and client-specific data standards.

Project Management & Collaboration

• Act as a GIS project lead, managing project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, and
  deliverables within a project scope.
• Coordinate with Indigenous Nations, mining clients, government agencies, consultants, and project teams to identify GIS requirements and develop effective geospatial solutions.

Job Description

• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to GIS staff and project team
  members.
• Establish and maintain quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures for spatial data and geospatial products.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Evaluate emerging geospatial technologies including remote sensing, drone-based
  mapping, cloud GIS, machine learning, and environmental monitoring applications.
• Identify opportunities to improve GIS workflows, automation, data governance, and
  reporting efficiencies.
• Support the development of enterprise GIS strategies and long-term geospatial data
  management initiatives.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Geomatics, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

Experience

• 7–10+ years of progressively responsible GIS experience supporting environmental consulting, natural resource management, reclamation, or related industries.
• Demonstrated experience working on development projects in British Columbia or Western Canada.
• Experience leading GIS projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience leading in data management

Technical Skills

• Advanced proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS, and Esri enterprise technologies.
• Experience working with LiDAR, UAV/drone data, remote sensing imagery, and terrain analysis.
• Knowledge data collection workflows and field data management.
• Familiarity with mining, environmental, reclamation, and regulatory datasets.

Wage Banding

$100,000 - $140,000 per annum
