Seasonal Ecological Restoration Planting Technician

Aski Reclamation LP (Aski) is an indigenous-owned environmental consulting company, which integrates First Nations’ knowledge with western science, to deliver solutions to the clients and pave the way for industry best practices in Restoration, Reclamation, and Environmental Services. Our Aski team consists of passionate ecologists, who are committed to the environment, to the restoration of Treaty 8 territory, and to the integration of different ways of knowing into their work.

The Seasonal Ecological Restoration Planting Technician is an engaging position that offers the opportunity to learn on the job about native plant ecology. We have a wide range of innovative projects, with their own objectives and site-specific needs. With this role, successful candidates can expect on the job training, and expanding their skill set. Successful candidates may also have the opportunity to be involved in other services our Aski’s teams perform, including aquatic sampling, invasive species monitoring & removal, seed collection, wildlife and vegetation survey, and bioengineering. Your role will be outdoor focused, working with the site supervisor and your project team on the ground. An average working day is 10 hours. Aski follows the BC Employment Standards Act regarding overtime payment.

Project Manager, Project Technical Lead, Planting Foreman

Expected Wage Range:

$21.00 - $28.00 hourly

Contract Term:

May 2024 - October 2024

(end date may vary based on project schedule)

 

Where you’ll work:

Aski’s ecological restoration planting projects are in the areas surrounding Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge, BC. We work to restore mine sites, oil and gas sites, hydroelectric sites, and forestry roads that enhance wildlife habitat.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Willingness to learn. This role takes special consideration and care to proper installation of the native plants. You can expect to learn species identification, correct microsite selection, and execution of planting design provided by lead planters
  • Attend and participate in project safety orientations, training, and meetings;
  • Wear required personal protective equipment at all times
  • Complete daily time and safety paperwork delegated by the supervisor
  • A positive attitude
  • Desire and ability to work outdoors in a team environment
  • Physical stamina - must be physically fit and capable of lifting, walking, bending, and carrying activities related to planting
  • Willingness to work in various terrain, remote locations, and weather conditions
  • Standard first aid training (OFA1)
  • Valid 5th class driver’s license an asset, with a clean driver’s abstract required
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, and RCMP criminal record check required

 

Traditional ecological knowledge as practiced by First Nations Peoples is considered an asset. In the event of equal qualifications, applicants of First Nations ancestry may be given preference during the selection process.
